INSPIRATION.....

The Western Australian site is in the middle of the desert with barely anything around, so for inspiration we looked to the poeple of the land, the aboriginal communities. We investigated thier stories, what they meant and how they may relate and form a design. Through our research we found some paintings which intrigued us:

Furthermore we researched the symbolism in these paintings:

  • A series of concentric circles represent meeting place, campsite or waterhole

  • A series of parallel lines represent a journey path, sandhills, a creek or a riverbed

  • Two snakes travelling to central meeting place: indicate journeys taken by the people as they travel and stop to create sacred ceremonial sites

This therefore reflects the meaning of this project, design a place for permanent residents and visitors; those on a journey.
We also incorporated a central meeting area in the shape of a circle to reflect this symbolism of a meeting place. So from aerial view our design imitates the paintings we found.
